Ranch Dressing {made with skim milk!}

Ranch Dressing {Made With Skim Milk!} | Feel Great in 8

We are huge fans of ranch dressing in our house. My kids love to dip raw veggies in it, they eat salad as long as it has ranch on it, and they even love it on their baked potatoes. For a long time, even after we started trying to eat only “real food,” I kept buying a certain hidden brand of ranch.  I tried more than one healthier version, but they just didn’t cut it. I knew the store bought version was full of highly processed, unhealthy junk {read MSG & hydrogenated oils}, but I just didn’t know what else to do.

Thanks goodness I finally found a recipe in my Our Best Bites cookbook. I made some small modifications to make it even one step healthier, and my family LOVES it! Even I was a little shocked that a homemade ranch dressing – with skim milk & half the calories – was this good!

Homemade Ranch Dressing
{makes about 1 3/4 cups of dressing}
Ingredients
2/3 cup skim milk
2 teaspoons vinegar
1 cup real mayonnaise*
1 teaspoon parsley
1/8 teaspoon dill
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/2 teaspoons dried chives
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon dry mustard
Directions
Combine skim milk and vinegar in a bowl and let sit for 10 minutes. Whisk together milk mixture and mayonnaise until smooth. Whisk in the remaining ingredients. It thickens in the fridge and tastes best after bring refrigerated overnight.
*Don’t forget to check the nutrition label on your mayo. Look for the ingredient list with the least number of ingredients and one where you recognize all of the ingredients.

    I just made this dressing for a pizza/wings party at work tomorrow and….YUM! I had to use a clove of minced frozen garlic and the green part of a spring onion for substitutions, plus I upped the vinegar by 1 tsp, the mustard powder by 1/4 tsp and the black pepper by 1/4 tsp. Just personal preference. But thank you very much for the recipe! I think you’ve convinced me to never buy ranch dressing again!

    Is there any way you could put a print button on your recipes? I want to print them and put them with my book but they aren’t in a printer friendly format.

    Excited to try this recipe out, nonetheless!

    Could I substitute almond milk for the skim milk?

      It’d probably be a little thinner consistency, but I’m guessing it would still taste good. If you try it, definitely come back and let us know how it goes.
