Spiced Apple Cider

December 1, 2014 by Tiffany Leave a Comment

Clean Eating Spiced Apple Cider | Feel Great in 8Yay for cold weather, snow, and a warm drink that smells like Christmas! I made a clean and healthy version of this classic drink that the whole family will love.

Are you guys fans of Six Sisters’ Stuff? If not, you definitely should be! I am lucky enough to be friends with these gorgeous girls in real life and they really are as kind, sweet and beautiful as they seem on their blog. I was also lucky enough to be given a copy of their new book 12 Days of Christmas with Six Sisters’ Stuff!

SixSistersChristmas

I have absolutely LOVED it! They share yummy recipes, homemade gift ideas, decorations, party ideas, and the cutest family traditions! It is the funnest Christmas book/cookbook, I already ordered 3 more as gifts.

Of course my favorite part is the recipes! I’ve had so much fun testing them out. I’ve tweaked a few like this Spiced Apple Cider, their Bacon and Egg Breakfast Casserole, and Bruch Enchiladas to make them a little healthier. And, I’ve enjoyed some treats too, like their Chocolate Orange Cookies, Peanut Butter Snowballs, and Homemade Orange Rolls. YUM!

If you are looking for a fun and inexpensive gift, I definitely recommend getting a copy or two. You can order right {HERE}! TODAY {12/1} you can enter the code HOLDAY30 to get a copy for only $10.22!!

Anyway, now onto this AMAZING recipe! It is so simple, you can make it on the stove or in a slow-cooker and it smells and tastes incredible. It is definitely a new tradition at our house! Thanks Sisters! 🙂

Spiced Apple Cider

Ingredients
  • 1 gallon 100% apple juice {I use Simply Apple
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 3 whole cinnamon sticks
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
  1. In a large stockpot or slow cooker, bring apple juice and pure maple syrup to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. Place salt and spices on a six-inch square of clean cheesecloth or any clean, then cotton fabric. Pull up edges and tie with a string to form a bag. *See note below.
  3. Place bag in the juice and reduce heat to medium low to maintain a low simmer. Simmer for at least 20 minutes, or for several hours.
  4. If using a slow cooker, heat juice and spices on low for 2 to 3 hours, and then keep warm.
  5. Refrigerate leftovers and reheat as needed.
  6. *The first time I made this I didn't have any cheesecloth or thin cotton fabric, so I just added the spices right to the juice and then strained the cider with a fine mesh strainer before drinking. It still worked great!
