Bake Your Bacon {cut calories & fat}

April 6, 2013 by Tiffany 3 Comments

How to Bake Bacon in the Oven - Make cleanup easy and cut calories and fat by baking your bacon in the oven! | Feel Great in 8 #healthy #recipe #bacon

I’ve mentioned before that we try not to eat too much meat. Most of the meals I make are vegetarian, simply because cutting back on meat has been one of our healthy lifestyle goals.

Having said that, we definitely haven’t cut it out completely. Occasionally I crave a juicy steak or my husband {needs} a crispy piece of bacon. So, I’m always in search of healthier ways to cook it.

I tried cooking bacon in the microwave, but it was just too hard to control. So, I was excited when I discovered that you can cook bacon in the oven! It’s a lot less messy, it cooks evenly without even needing flipped, and “bake your bacon” is just fun to say. 😉

Plus, I cook mine on a cooling rack which lets all the fat and grease drip down below. I can’t find exact numbers, but I figure the fact that it doesn’t cook in its own drippings has to cut down on the calories and fat…right?

How to Bake Your Bacon
{makes as many strips of bacon as you need want}
Directions
Line a baking sheet with heavy duty aluminum foil. Place a cooling rack on top of the foil and lay bacon slices in a single layer on top of cooling rack. Put the whole thing in the cold oven and turn the temperature to 400 degrees. That’s right, no need to even preheat the oven! Now, just cook until it reaches your desired level of crispness. Depending on the thickness of the bacon it should take 15-20 minutes. When it is done, immediately put bacon on paper towels to soak up any remaining grease.
Nutrition Information*
{serving size =1 strip of baked bacon}
30 calories, 2g fat, 3g protein
* I estimated these based on information I found here and here.

    Do you spray the rack with Pam?

      I don’t, but I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt anything.
