I just know you’re going to love this one. This Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken and Vegetables is one of those recipes that is SO incredibly easy you won’t believe it. No more cooking chicken, roasting red potatoes and steaming vegetables separately! Just throw them all into a Slow Cooker {i.e. Crock Pot} and have a delicious healthy dinner on the table. And, this one is a crowd pleaser! My whole family including my husband and four picky kids devoured it.
The chicken ends up so moist and flavorful and the veggies are cooked to perfection. My favorite is the combo of honey and garlic! A little bit of sweet and so flavorful! I think it’s officially my favorite combo, I know you’ll love it too!
Also, this one is also perfect for busy days with sports and activities. Add it all to the slow cooker in the morning and dinner is ready and waiting by the time you finally get home for the night. 🙂

I made this for dinner today. It turned out great!
Raxhel says
Not sure what I did wrong, but this is the first time I’ve ever had meat turn out dry in a slow cooker. I just reviewed the recipe again, and I followed it exactly except I didn’t have quite enough soy sauce so I used bourbon sauce and water to make up the same amount of liquid. Set the slow cooker on low for 7.5 hours. Everything was black on the outside and the chicken was really dry. I was really looking forward to it & am sad it didn’t turn out like I hoped.
Tiffany says
I’m so sorry to hear that! If you’re using a large slow cooker you may need to decrease the cooking time to more like 6 hours.
Ralph Thomas says
Add a little water or chicken broth at start
I’m cooking chicken in crockpot now
AM says
I can’t seem to post a new review, so I will piggyback on what Raxhel posted. I followed this recipe to the letter and cooked for 4 hours. It was just awful. The chicken was like dry shredded leather, the potatoes were mush and the carrots were still hard. Worst of all, everything was brown….such a dark unappetizing brown that my kids were fighting me about eating it. The sauce has potential perhaps if cooked separately, but beyond that, big miss here.
Tiffany says
So sorry to hear that! It sounds like it was over cooked. Every slow cooker is different, so it’s hard to give exact directions, but if you ever try it again I’d definitely cut down on the cooking time or temperature.
Stephanie says
Should the chicken be frozen?
Tiffany says
You can use frozen chicken, you’ll just need to increase the cooking time.
Pat Gregory says
I also followed the recipe to the letter. Everything did come out an unappetizing color, not at all like the picture. And the sauce itself was not very good, even a little bitter. I’ve made a honey roasted chicken that was to die for, but this recipe just wasn’t very good. And I use the crock pot often!
Jade says
I am a terrible cook, but I made this for my family tonight and they loved it! It was the first time they have ever enjoyed anything I have made lol! The only things I did different were that I cooked the chicken, potatoes, and carrots in the oven because I didn’t have time to slow cook, I cut out the soy sauce, and I steamed the green beans on the stove top. Like I said, they loved it!
Tiffany says
I am so happy to hear that! 🙂
Makelle says
Do you add any water? The sauce doesn’t seem like very much…..
Tiffany says
No need to add water, there will be plenty of liquid by the time it finishes cooking.
anne greene says
if I double the recipe in the slow cooker how much longer will it have to cook?
Tiffany says
If you have a nice big slow cooker, you should just be able to do the maximum cooking time.
Nickie says
Did you use the liquid measuring cup for the soy sauce
Lyndsay says
Can i use frozen chicken breasts or should they be thawed?
Tiffany says
I’ve done either, you’ll just need to adjust your cooking time accordingly.
Ms. J says
Should the chicken be thawed or can it be frozen?
Tiffany says
I’ve done either, you’ll just need to adjust your cooking time accordingly.
Becca says
I just found this recipe on pinterest and cooked it. It is delicious!
Tiffany says
I’m so glad you liked it Becca! Thanks for commenting!
April says
This is my first time reviewing a recipe, but I made this a few nights ago and my husband devoured it! (…and so did I!) This will definitely be a great weekday meal I can see myself making for years to come. Not only is it simple and quick to make, but it also has an amazing, addicting flavor! thanks so much for sharing your recipe.
Tiffany says
I am so happy to hear that April! Thanks for commenting!
Reggie says
I’m trying this for dinner tonight. I used 1/4 cup of soy sauce and a 1/4 cup of ketchup instead of 1/2 cup of soy sauce. Will update
With results this evening.
Reggie says
I really liked this recipe. I made a couple of changes: quartered the potatoes, placed frozen green beans in with other ingredients, used 1/4 cup each of soy sauce and ketchup, added 3/4 cup of no salt chicken stock. My family loved it!
Tiffany says
So happy to hear that!
Paula says
I made this tonight was very good but my potatoes & carrots were very dark really absorbed the soy sauce. Will make again
Tiffany says
Glad you liked it Paula! You can always leave the skin on the potatoes and even the carrots if the coloring bugs you. That should help a little. 🙂
Sarah C says
Is the chicken supposed to be frozen or thawed when putting it into the crockpot?
Tiffany says
Hi Sarah! Either way will work, you’ll just need to do the longer cooking time if you use frozen.
Geraldine says
I have a small cooker and want to cook just two chicken breasts should the cooking time be less?
Tiffany says
Since you’ll be using a smaller slow cooker the cooking times shouldn’t be too different. I’d just plan on the lower end of the cooking times. Hope you enjoy it!
Betty says
I made this dinner today, the chicken was very dry. I made it according to the directions. Just not something I would make again.
Tiffany says
So sorry it didn’t work for you Betty! It sounds like maybe it was overcooked. Every crockpot/slow cooker is different, so it’s hard to know the best time. If you ever do decide to try it again, I’d try cooking it on low and/or cutting back on the cooking time.
Dd says
How long do I cook it if meat is thawed at low temp?
Tiffany says
With thawed chicken on low it’ll probably take 6-7 hours. Cook time will depend on other factors too though, like the size of your slow cooker/crockpot. Smaller slow cookers that are full of food will take longer, a bigger slow cooker with lots of extra room will take less time. Hope that helps!
Brittany says
If I only have a 4 quart slow cooker do I need to reduce this recipe a bit?
Tiffany says
Hi Brittany! You might need to reduce it a bit, or if it does all fit you’ll need to plan on a slightly longer cooking time. 🙂
Brittany says
AWESOME! Thanks Tiffany!
Paulette says
I’m allergic to soy so what could I use instead?
Tiffany says
Hi Paulette! In the past I’ve made a soy sauce substitute similar to this recipe that worked great – http://allrecipes.com/recipe/92873/soy-sauce-substitute/
Erika says
I would love to make this but I don’t have 8 hours! Ideas?
Tiffany says
Hey Erika! I actually shared a 30 minute version of this recipe on the Super Healthy Kids blog – http://www.superhealthykids.com/one-pan-honey-garlic-chicken-vegetables/
Kelli says
Has anyone ever tried this recipe with boneless skinless chicken thighs?
Tiffany says
I haven’t, but I bet it would work fine.
sarah says
Can this be made ahead and if so how would I do that?
Tiffany says
Yes, I just put all the ingredients into a gallon sized ziploc bag and keep it in the fridge or freezer uncooked until I’m ready to dump it in the slow cooker!
Andrea says
Can you swap in sweet potatoes for red potatoes?
Tiffany says
I’ve never tried it, but it should work. You’ll just want to pay attention to the cook time on the sweet potatoes so they don’t end up too mushy/falling apart.
Autumn says
It’s says it serves 8 but how would 4 chicken breast serve 8 people? 8 people is the number of guest I’ll have, should I get more chicken breast and double the recipe?
Thanks
AZ
Tiffany says
Hey Autumn! With all the other things with it, I just serve half a chicken breast to each person. If you want everyone to have a full chicken breast I would double the recipe. 🙂
Meg says
About how big are the chicken breasts you use? Thanks in advance!
Tiffany says
I’m not sure exactly, but I’d guess 4-5 ounces. Hope that helps!
BreAnna says
What if I only use 2 chicken breasts? Leave everything the same and the cook time too? Or should I half the ingredients and cook time as well?
Tiffany says
Hey BreAnna! I’d probably cut everything in half. You might need more than half the cooking time, but this is not one that you want to way over cook.
Sue says
Can you use thin chicken breasts?
Tiffany says
Yes, you just might need to adjust the cooking time so they don’t dry out.
Lisa says
Hey can u swap the potatoes with yams? And Is it also possible to add aparagus and mushrooms with the beans? Has any one tried any of those things with it.?
Tiffany says
I’ve never tried it, but it sounds delicious. Definitely come back and let us know how it goes!
Megan says
I thought I had chicken breasts but I don’t! But I do have 10 boneless chicken tenders–how should I adjust the recipe/cook time for this? I also plan to be a lazy butt and just use canned sliced carrots and canned whole potatoes–should I put these in at the beginning or wait a few hours. I am going to be out most of the day, so I want to do the longer cook time on LOW. Thanks in advance!
Tiffany says
Hi Megan! Sorry I didn’t see your question sooner. I’ve never made any of those adjustments to be able to give advice, but I’d love to hear if you tried it and how it went!
Brittiany says
If I wanted to bake this dish what would you suggest the cook time and temperature? I thought you had it on here but can’t seem to find it! Thank you!
Tiffany says
Hey Brittiany! I actually did this one as a one sheet recipe for the Super Healthy Kids blog –> http://www.superhealthykids.com/one-pan-honey-garlic-chicken-vegetables/
Emilie Ahern says
Made this today and our entire family LOVED it! Based on my slow cooker I will cook gor less time next time I make it. The chicken was a bit dry so we spooned some of the leftover sauce on it and it was fine!
We left out the carrots and added extra potatoes since we’re not “cooked carrots” people. A winner!!!
Tiffany says
I am so happy to hear that Emilie! Thanks for commenting!
Lynn says
Tried this and not happy with the looks nor the taste. Again, as previous comments made, it was black. not appealing right there. Next, all I tasted was soy sauce, no honey or garlic. I used a thicker chicken breast which was decent in moisture content. Added rice as side to complement the meal.
Tiffany says
So sorry it didn’t work out for you Lynn!
Jezzie says
I just made this and it was super easy and taste yummy! I used frozen chicken breast and added onion…i put the potatoes and carrots and onion on the bottom and chicken on top and cooked on high for 3 and a half hours. I didnt add the green beans… will definitely make it again. Thank you!
Tiffany says
I love hearing that and great suggestions! Thanks for commenting!
Jessie Fernandez says
I did this today. Chicken taste was delicious and so did the potatoes and carrots but they got this brown wierd color. Will surely make the chicken again with some rice instead.
Natalie says
One of my boyfriend and I’s favorite meals!! The best part was — we pretty much had every ingredient needed, so we didn’t have to spend a ton of $$. The chicken fell apart and had so much flavor — he seriously asks me to make this every week.
Thank you!!
Tiffany says
I am so happy to hear that Natalie! Thanks for commenting!
Ews says
Easy and delicious flavor. I will make again.
Marley Gentry says
I made this recipe today using thick frozen chicken breasts, cut soy sauce to 1/4 cup and added fresh mushrooms. accidently added frozen green beans at the beginning. I added 3/4 C. chicken broth and cooked for 7 1/2 hours on low. It turned out beautifully. The chicken broth smoothed out the strong taste of the soy sauce. Thanks for the recipe. Will make again
Tiffany says
I am so happy to hear that Marley! Thanks for commenting! 🙂
Becky says
This was very good but everything turned red because of the soy sauce. I will be making this again with some changes. I like Marley Gentry’s suggestions. Thanks for the recipe.
Renee Kritzer says
I have a 5 at slow cooker is there anything I need to change about the recipe
Tiffany says
It may just take a little longer to cook in the smaller slow cooker.
Renee Kritzer says
The chicken came out shredded and the green beans did not cook. I heated some the next day in the microwave and it was fine
Nae says
Will I be able to do this recipe with regular potatoes instead of red potatoes?
Tiffany says
Hi Nae! Regular potatoes should work fine. 🙂
Melissa says
I came across this recipe recently, and I made it tonight, but using chicken breasts and red potatoes. It was SPECTACULAR! This will become a regular in my house. Thanks for the recipe!
Tiffany says
Thanks for sharing! <3
Masey says
I halved this recipe and cooked it for 7 hours in a 4.5qt crockpot. It was just okay. The chicken breast was on the dry side, but I don’t blame the recipe for that – chicken breast does tend to be dry. It wasn’t so dry that it was inedible, though. The potatoes were cooked to the perfect texture, but absorbed the majority of the liquid and took on an almost bitter flavor. I would make this again but with a few changes. I would marinate the chicken breast in the liquid before putting it into the slow cooker. I would also add some butter chunks on top of everything and some salt sprinkled over the veggies. I give the recipe 3 stars because I think it’s a good start to a great recipe, with some modifications.
Ashley says
I was a little hesitant to make the recipe after I read through the reviews. However, my conclusion is that it has great flavor, but it definitely needs more liquid when cooking. It came out very dry. I would definitely modify it before making it again.
